Trainers for Construction Site and Craft Training

There are two job advertisements as we have two different kinds of trainers, but want to crew for a general pool first.

We don’t know yet when our interventions will take place or what the interventions will be exactly. It can either be:

  • reconstruction of a building (duration: 3 weeks)
  • essential carpentry training (duration: 1 week)
  • essential joinery training (duration: 1 week)
  • essential welding training (duration: 1 week)

Volunteer position

Title: Trainer for CADUS Construction Site Training

Role description: You will teach lay people through hands-on reconstruction of a building on a construction site essential skills in reconstruction, as well carpentry, joinery and welding. By doing so, you equip the participants of our interventions to manage small construction projects independently.

Subordinate to: Infield Team Lead

Superior to: None

Field of Expertise

Core Tasks

  • Construction: You are responsible for the reconstruction of a damaged building (independently and without guidance) – only with one colleague and a bunch of lay people – in line with all relevant work safety regulations and local Ukrainian requirements.
  • Teaching: The main focus of the project is on teaching: you will teach lay people essential skills in reconstruction of buildings, carpentry, joinery and/or welding. You ensure that all participants are following the course and are highly motivated.
  • Documentation: You track and document the training progress and success to ensure all participants are passing the course. If needed, you consult with individuals to find out what they’re struggling with.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Safety & Security: The Safety & Security in all work safety related matters of the workshop lie within your responsibility. You ensure safe handling of all machinery by teaching the participants the proper use as well as the required safety precautions (including proper safety clothing and further protection equipment).
  • Training content: You are the expert and know the training content and curriculum by heart.
  • Knowledge transfer: It is your responsibility to ensure that all participants engage in the reconstruction and learn the skills that are taught.

Further Requirements

  • Construction regulations: You are knowledgeable to reconstruct damaged buildings.

Personal Skill Set

Hard Skills

  • Professional background: You completed a professional training in either carpentry, joinery or welding.
  • Work experience: If you don’t have formal training, you should have at least worked for 5 years in carpentry (especially statics, wood joints, door and window frames, weatherproofing, structural repairs and building), joinery (especially furniture construction as well as window/door construction and installation), or welding (especially MIG/MAG, electrode and TIG welding, safety precautions and quality control) to ensure you possess the necessary practical expertise and understanding of industry standards.
  • Knowledge: You possess all the relevant knowledge for the successful execution of the intervention of and/or the flexibility to adapt to Ukrainian construction techniques. Also, you are confident in deciding to adapt the plan of the construction site without further consultation if needed. You are creative and flexible in relation to the procurement of materials (reusing, adapting etc. are always suitable solutions for you).

Soft Skills

  • Teaching skills: You are a great teacher! Empathy is one of your core skills. You understand students and the hardships coming with adolescence and living in a conflict zone  and always teach on eye level. You are patient and willing to further develop the suggested curriculum in line with participant’s needs and suggestions.
  • Communication: Good communication comes easy to you, both with students as well as with superiors. You speak the language of the students or are able to work with translations.
  • Emotional resilience: You are resilient to stress. Even in highly stressful situations and high-risk areas you remain calm and respectful. You are able to work and function in stressful surroundings and never unload your personal distress on others.

Languages

  • English: Your English is fluent written and spoken.
  • Ukrainian/Russian: If possible.

Other

  • Driving: Driving license B

Conditions

  • Volunteer position, but per diems, accomodation, travel costs and insurance will be covered
  • Time period: Will be decided after May 05th. A minimum of three consecutive weeks availability is needed.
  • Working time conditions: From 9am to 6pm on six days a week (Monday to Saturday) – maybe even longer
  • Travel conditions: Either by car or by train (expenses covered by CADUS)

Volunteer position

Title: Trainer for Essential Carpentry/Joinery/Welding Training

Role description: You will teach lay people through an one-week workshop essential skills in carpentry, joinery or welding. By doing so, you make sure that they are confident in the craft they have learned and can carry out smaller projects independently.

Subordinate to: Infield Team Lead

Superior to: None
