Infield training and capacity building

At CADUS, we see training as an essential part of our work – not only to impart knowledge, but also to strengthen capacities on the ground. Our infield training courses are practice-oriented and tailored to the real challenges in crisis regions. They offer participants the opportunity to learn and apply skills and abilities directly on site.

We promote capacity building through tailor-made programmes that strengthen local communities, aid workers and organizations in the long term and thus enable sustainable and self-determined aid. Our aim is to empower people and enable them to act effectively even under extreme conditions.

Current training programs

Ukraine

At CADUS, we see it as our responsibility to impart essential skills and abilities, especially in crisis and conflict regions such as Ukraine. In crisis and war regions, well-trained aid workers are crucial to saving the lives of those affected and ensuring medical and technical care.

Our training courses offer practical and adaptable solutions that are tailored to the specific conditions on the ground – from trauma care to transportation techniques – from repair work to water treatment. In solidarity with the people in Ukraine, we provide needs-oriented support – so that they remain capable of acting even under extreme conditions.

Whether through medical aid, technical equipment or on-site training: together we create structures that not only help in the moment, but also have a long-term effect and strengthen reconstruction in the long term.

Medical training

In-depth training for dealing with trauma patients in crisis and conflict situations. Advanced knowledge of wound care, airway management, bleeding control and patient-centred stabilization is imparted – with a practical and operational focus!

This training teaches essential life-saving emergency measures that are of crucial importance in crisis regions such as Ukraine. The focus is on the implementation of CPR, the recovery position and the rapid recognition of life-threatening conditions, especially under the challenging conditions of a war or disaster scenario. Practical techniques are taught that are tailored to the specific needs and location in Ukraine.

This training focuses on the safe and effective transportation of patients between medical facilities in Eastern Ukraine, an area with particularly difficult logistical and security conditions. It teaches techniques for stabilizing patients, effective handover processes and communication and coordination between teams during transport. Particular attention is paid to the specific challenges in war zones, such as restricted access, dangerous mountainous locations and unpredictable security risks.

Technical training / GIZ project

With the support of GIZ, CADUS offers practice-oriented, technical training in Ukraine to support local communities in disaster relief and reconstruction. Our goal: to form Technical Response Teams, i.e. volunteer groups capable of carrying out urgent repairs and helping to rebuild areas devastated by war. The training is designed to contribute to local reconstruction, build community resilience and provide pathways to employment. Open to anyone aged 14 and over – no previous experience required. Women and veterans are particularly welcome.

What we offer:
Construction site training (3 weeks): Participants learn the basics of organizing construction sites and carrying out important repairs.

Welding, carpentry and joinery workshops (1 week each): Participants learn practical skills in metal and woodworking to rebuild houses and infrastructure.

Gaza

In many places in Gaza, medical care has almost collapsed. Hospitals are overburdened, resources are scarce and access to professional help is often no longer possible.

In this reality, it is all the more important for CADUS to support local forces through training. By teaching life-saving emergency measures, we enable local people to remain capable of acting themselves in acute emergencies, to care for others and to strengthen their community – even under extreme conditions. When in doubt, this knowledge can save lives.

Medical training

As part of our educational work, CADUS offers a compact, practice-oriented 1-day training course for lay medical staff and first responders in Gaza. The aim of the training is to teach basic life-saving measures for serious bleeding and chest injuries – especially in situations where professional medical help is not immediately available.

The training is aimed at people who are active in high-risk contexts such as Gaza – whether in the civilian sector or in humanitarian aid. Topics covered include the effective use of tourniquets (including improvised ones), stopping bleeding using wound tamponade and pressure dressings as well as the use of chest seals. In addition, simple measures for securing the airway, such as the head tilt chin lift and the recovery position, are taught.

Another focus is on self-help and helping others under stress as well as the safe evacuation of injured persons with minimal resources. The training teaches practical skills that can be used immediately in acute emergencies – low-threshold, directly applicable and tailored to the conditions on site.
